IDENTITY Festival 2011!!!

IDENTITY caught up with Rockstar Energy Drink’s Dim Mak Stage headliner and Mr. Dim Mak himself, Steve Aoki for this Festival Friday feature. Steve sits down, on a boat, in St. Tropez to discuss his first real LIVE VISUAL set that he’ll be bringing out on IDENTITY and what it’s going to be like touring in a bus for the first time.

DIM MAK is presenting the DIM MAK stage at each of the IDENTITY’s dates. “The lineup for the festival is amazing and I’m excited to have a Dim Mak stage on IDentity”, says Steve Aoki of DIM MAK. “We have done festival stages mainly outside of America and this will be a crucial tour for Dim Mak to be traveling across over 20 cities in the US. This will be a memorable stage with great artists!” Along with Aoki, other artists appearing on the DIM MAK stage include: DJ Shadow, The Crystal Method, Holy Ghost!, Nero and Datsik, just to name a few.

Launched in 1996, by then UCSB student Steve Aoki, with a 7 inch from obscure SoCal hardcore ensemble Stickfigurecarousel, Dim Mak has since put out over 200 releases and broken artists from Bloc Party to The Kills, Battles, The Gossip, Klaxons, The Bloody Beetroots, MSTRKRFT and more. In just the past few years, Dim Mak has created its touring department in the same tradition of spanning genres and doing what feels right. In the US, Dim Mak has partnered with festivals such as Hard, Neighborhood, and Pacific in Los Angeles. Internationally, Dim Mak has quickly become a global force in the festival circuit including stages at Beatpatrol in Vienna, Get Loaded in London, Playground in Jakarta as well as We Love Sounds/Winterland Soundsystem across Australia in 2010 and most recently Future Music Australia 2011. This summer Dim Mak continued that tradition at the Optimus Festival in Lisbon, Tomorrowland in Belgium and Beatpatrol (again), and now taking on the first nationally touring Electronic music festival in the US, IDENTITY.
